How to Clean your Dirty Bumper Plates
Exactly how to Clean your Dirty Bumper Plates
Look at those bumper plates that went from brand new, perfect, smooth little bumpers to bulging as hell, hairy-chested, dirty looking bumpers. Don’t worry, that’s proof you’ve been working on it. This article tells you how to clean bumper plates.
You either have a dirty bumper or another condition called “rubber bloom,” which happens when the curing agent used in the rubberizing process transfers to the surface of the bumper plates and forms what you see: a milky grey substance. It happens in molded rubber. Don’t worry, it’s normal, has no effect on the quality of the plate, and isn’t harmful in any way, and your bumper plate isn’t the only rubber that often experiences this…wellies, rubber seals, tires (you get the idea), so keep our tips and tricks in your back pocket and use them when you need them.
We’ve got solutions for both of these situations coming up.
If your bumper is covered in dirt, grime, sweat, and work.
(Don’t worry, it’s a super easy fix!).
Supplies needed:
- Warm soapy water (and more water for washing) – dish soap works wonders.
- Soft, dry cloth – like a wash cloth or microfiber towel.
- Sunlight – optional, but helpful.
Step 1: Mix some warm water and soap (dishwashing liquid works best) and wash the bumper thoroughly (a sponge works well in this case).
Step 2: Wash it thoroughly.
Step 3: Dry it with a cloth, making sure to get into the small gaps near the metal ring with a dry towel.
If you really want to take good care of your precious bumpers and give them the break they deserve after all their hard work, then let these poor babies bask in the sun…we mean let them dry…they will also stick with you longer by staying in a clean, healthy, pristine condition.
If the above method doesn’t work
you’ve most likely got the Rubber bloom. (This is also a relatively easy fix!).
Materials Needed:
- A small amount of olive oil or mineral oil.
- 2x microfiber towels (or soft towels – one for wiping the oil, the other for cleaning).Armor All Safe Wipes for avoiding future blooms – optional, but handy.
Step 1: Take a soft cloth and drop the oil into it.
Step 2: Rub the cloth lightly soaked in oil over the affected area until the white, dark spots begin to disappear.
Step 3: Use a clean, dry towel to wipe off small amounts of oil (repeat if necessary).
If you are a little concerned about using oil on your weight plates
try this:.
